The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho recorded a sharp increase in tourist arrivals and tourism turnover during the five-day holiday of the Hung Kings Commemoration Day, Reunification Day (April 30th), and International Labor Day (May 1st).

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City, the city attracted 982,000 local and international visitors from April 28 to May 2, an increase of 139% compared to the same period last year. Accommodation establishments in the area are estimated to serve 105,000 guests, an increase of 44% compared to the holiday in 2022. Specifically, in which, foreign guests staying in Can Tho City rose by 360% against the year-ago period at 1,800. The total revenue of around VND 523 billion ($22.5 million) from the tourism sector, up 185 percent compared to the holiday in 2022.
In order to achieve the growth, Can Tho City launched many activities and events to lure a large number of tourists such as the 10th Southern Folk Cake Festival with the theme “Preserving and promoting the value of Southern folk cakes”, the 9th Don ca tai tu (southern amateur music) festival in 2023, the Hot Air Balloon Festival 2023 with the theme “Fly up Can Tho! Proud to be home to white rice and pure water”, and coordinated with relevant units to organize the 35th Ho Chi Minh City Television Cycling Tournament. Particularly, on April 25, the direct flight from Can Tho to Van Don (Quang Ninh Province) was officially operated with a frequency of three flights a week, facilitating tourists’ travel to the Mekong Delta localities and boosting the number of tourists to the city during the public holiday.
In order to ensure the operation and well serve the needs of visitors during the festival, the local authorities of Can Tho asked businesses, agencies, and people to implement disease prevention and control strictly; ensure food safety, environmental sanitation, price management, security and order; improve the service quality to better serve visitors.
